4 Piece rock band Dead Cells and their ‘Tear down the Heavens E.P’ is tearing more down than just the heavens. From the start you are given that classic feeling of the “Pearl Jam, Jim Morrison” element with the classic licks and fast riffs taking you into the groove. With the drum beats and the guitars moving at a rapid speed and energy ‘Sunshine’ is a great track to get you into the groove of this band at an early stage. As we head into ‘Here Be Dragons’ we are given those great bass licks and clean guitars before the rock really comes through. ‘Painkiller’ has such a hard rock feel to it with the “Squeals (Pitched Harmonics)” of the solo guitars taking you further down the melody lines. The vocals are excellent too, very leading, full of strength and more than enough to take you through the music into a new era entirely. ‘Dead Letter’ starts with such dreaded bass lines combined with a fascinating haunting use of riffs. The vocals toned down a notch to flow with the music. As we head through the song, mid-way I can almost feel Jim Morrison influences creeping in from afar, combine this with the ‘Aerosmith – Dream On’ feel and you have yourself a great song throughout.
A fantastic E.P full of various influences and sounds to keep you completely entertained.
